Dear Brave Survivors
A letter to my readers who want to read more about healing.
Dear Brave Survivors,
I decided to pause today to check in with you. These are not easy times for those of us who live with easily dysregulated nervous systems due to our history of childhood trauma. I get it. I have been stepping away from the chaos as much as I can, and hope you can do the same.
Most who follow me do so to access information and support for healing. As a survivor advocate, I try my best to stay in that lane. Also as an advocate for survivors, it is important to speak out when harm is done to those who are already suffering. Being an advocate requires me to do both and I try to do so in ways that feel validating and healing.
I realized this morning that I have McMusings stacked six deep in my file because I do not want those who are already struggling to get more trauma-informed political posts in their inboxes that they simply do not want to see. Yet, not saying what I feel is important feels like I am in a cage again.
I firmly believe every conundrum has a solution, so I have a plan….
Starting tomorrow, I will post the backlog of McMusings in the McMusing Section but will not send them out to everyone in newsletters. I will also put the links in the RockWall Chronicles next week for easy access. Healing is all about empowering yourself and others to make choices and I understand those who do not want this content arriving more than occasionally.
Regular content will continue!
For some, the content may be helpful. It is certainly helpful for me to write it. It is also important for me to send my writing out into the world in some form. A friend mentioned my prolific writing in a comment last week. I have no real explanation for this truth except that I was silenced for sixty-five years before publishing Brave. I write for myself and I am glad it is helpful for others.
Please take good care of yourselves! What five things can you do to care for yourself between now and the election? Here is my list!
Write —of course.
Football! Hoping the Seahawks do better!
Work a puzzle—I have several of them waiting.
Grading—lots of it! My students are amazing! I enjoy reading their reflections.
Enjoy our first Halloween here at RockWall Cottage. The entire compound has plans! There will be chickens involved.
It's a simple list, isn’t it? Enjoying the simple things of life is great self-care.
As part of your list, if you would like to join a non-political Brave Conversation on Zoom—Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 8:00 PM Eastern—send me a message for the link. Available to both Free and Paid Subscribers.
Thank you for your kind consideration.
