A horrifying moment for me, as an early childhood director, occurred at a multi-state conference.

We were introduced to a puppet that was to be revolutionary in how we could introduce this concept of sin to our young students.

It was an eagle - very well made, and the puppeteer excellent! We got to the moment of describing “sin”, and the puppeteer ripped open the eagle’s Velcro torso, reached in and pulled out the eagles heart (a black heart)

I don’t remember the rest of the presentation actually - at some point there was a white heart surgically implanted back into the puppet.

I was fully immersed in the culture at the time - but even then was so horrifying to me, and so misguided as to early childhood learning (ever so literal!).

The worst part - the line to the puppet vendor was the longest at the conference.

They sold out of eagles.
