RockWall Cottage Chronicles
A newsy, sometimes amusing, usually interesting fly-on-the-RockWall view of my life as an author with updates from my Substack adventures.
The small cottage where I live and write has been affectionally named RockWall Cottage because of the rock wall that divides our side of the property from the side of the property where our friends, the owners of the cottage, live. (Learn More)
What Has Been Happening at RockWall Cottage?
Just a short update . . .
We have the best adult children who are caring for us well. Our daughter drove us to the University of Washington Medical Center late Sunday afternoon where our son met us and we got Scott settled in his room. Two doctor teams came to talk with us before our son helped me get settled at a hospitality lodging for patients and families. (Thankful for a gracious gift that enabled me to do this!) The shuttle arrived right on schedule this morning and I successfully navigated my way back to Scott’s room.
There have been so many things that I have needed to learn in my lifetime. The process for a liver transplant was an unexpected one. For those curious about how this process works, this is my best understanding at this point (without remembering the technical names for everything).
Initial visit to determine if a liver transplant is a possibility/needed. (Done)
Extensive testing (this is the process we are here to complete)
Meetings with multiple teams of doctors, physical therapists, nutritionists, social workers, etc. (Will also be done during this stay)
Once all the necessary information is gathered, it will go to the transplant committee. These meetings are on Wednesdays. Hopefully, that will happen by then or we will wait for the next week.
The committee will decide on one of three things:
Denial as a candidate for a liver transplant.
The need for additional testing or treatments (very possible)
Approval to be placed on the transplant list.
If “C” happens, things get even more complicated and I am aware of these details but cannot dwell on them until I know I need to. We have a circle of support gathering around us should this happen. We are learning to graciously receive help.
Meanwhile, this is my view . . . yes, there’s construction but I can focus on the trees.
