RockWall Cottage Chronicles
A newsy, sometimes amusing, usually interesting fly-on-the-RockWall view of my life as an author with updates from my Substack adventures.
The small cottage where I live and write has been affectionally named RockWall Cottage because of the rock wall that divides our side of the property from the side of the property where our friends, the owners of the cottage, live. (Learn More)
What Has Been Happening at RockWall Cottage?
This is a short late-night update from the cottage . . .
We are adjusting to being home from the hospital and realizing that the care he received was helping him and not sure that can happen at home. We have an appointment with primary care tomorrow and hopefully, we can find some solutions. I will say that my dear husband is braver and trying harder to gain strength than I could have hoped for.
Today he went out for a walk in the driveway. He had circled once when our neighbor’s dog began barking and alerted us to a dog heading toward us. I do not want to disparage pit bulls, but when one’s husband is as unstable as Scott is right now, it was a terrifying sight to see this dog who had gotten lose coming toward us.
I thought, “It isn’t a good idea to charge a pit bull but even if he only wanted to play, he would knock Scott over. So, I went full wild-woman and charged toward him screaming . . . and he ran back home.
That is who I am right now.
Thank you to all who have reached out to support us. I have some thank you notes I need to send!
I had a meeting with my colleagues at Tabor College this morning and the director of the program said, “I keep expecting you to reach out for help.” I laughed, “Have you met me?” But I would if I needed to—I promise I would . Teaching grounds me, it always has. And as of tonight, I am caught up with grading. Three more weeks!
I leave you with this picture my son shared from their annual Spring Break trip to Oregon. I said, “Send me a sunset picture.” And he did.
There is always hope in every sunset.
The next morning, he sent a sunrise . . .
When we cannot be by the ocean, our children continue to seek beauty and adventure. We may be struggling right now, but we have lived well and will climb this hurdle also.
