RockWall Cottage Chronicles
A newsy, sometimes amusing, usually interesting fly-on-the-RockWall view of my life as an author with updates from my Substack adventures.
The small cottage where I live and write has been affectionally named RockWall Cottage because of the rock wall that divides our side of the property from the side of the property where our friends, the owners of the cottage, live. (Learn More)
What Has Been Happening at RockWall Cottage?
Yesterday was the oddest Easter of my life. It seemed like a time when I would normally spend time writing to encourage those who struggle with holidays. I read the work of other authors but had no words of my own. My friend expressed what I could not in this quote. Thank you David Ruybalid. This is so in tandem with what I said in Trauma in the Pews.
Instead of writing or celebrating in ways that I have over the years, I packed up and headed back to the Collegiana Hospitality House to check in for the week and then sat in Scott’s room as family members came to visit him.
Hoping for a Liver
While no one at the hospital can ever be sure when a donated liver may be arriving, we have heard encouraging words that cause us to think it could happen this week. It is humbling to consider that our help will come as the result of another family’s loss.

Family Amusement During Difficult Times
When Scott was first admitted to UW Medical Center, the doctors asked if he was moving more slowly. I said, “Like a sloth.” Sometimes, the things I say. I tried to redeem myself yesterday by bringing him this adorable sloth for Easter. Read the tag!

My children thought I needed a chicken to keep me company. I admit to having conversations with this new friend that are similar to Tom Hanks and Wilson. I named her Livvy.
Even in the worst of circumstances McConnaughey’s maintain a sense of humor.

You continue in our thoughts and prayers. While it is a tragedy when someone dies, the donation of life is miraculous!! Give your sweet sloth a hug and “hey!” for me. I’m so glad your family is there, but I’m not at all surprised as I’ve had time with the two of you.
May God’s presence remain upon you both.
Keeping you both in my prayers. And I love the lovies (which is what my grandkids call stuffed animals)!
