Who am I?

I am an author, educator, wife, mother and grandmother with an almost unpronounceable name—at least until a movie star helped me out with that endless last name. The first name—Janyne—is pronounced like “Jeannine.”

My story about how I walked into therapy at the age of 61 is in my first book, Brave: Healing Childhood Trauma. (My brave beginning to publicly telling my therapy story is in this blog.) For ten years I have been healing and encouraging others to heal—and so much more! (More about me can be found at my website.)

I currently live in a small cottage in Washington State with my husband, Scott, and my rescue dog Weber. And I have come here to write. McMusings are reflections on life, Trauma in the Pews is where you can follow my work in the faith and religious trauma arena. Brave Survivors provides both information and support for the healing of trauma. And there will always be a book in progress beginning with Hotel Candelabra!

Why Subscribe?

This space is a way to continue to do what I love most—write. Most often that writing is to support those who have experienced trauma or those walking alongside survivors as they heal—but not always.

Telling my story in my first three Brave books ten years ago launched me into spaces where my voice mattered and I am thankful to all those who have supported me. Publishing Trauma in the Pews launched me in an entire new direction of addressing religious trauma and again, I am thankful for all who supported me.

Through all this, I continued to share my McMusings on social media and longed to once again have a space to enjoy the more creative aspects of writing. I am hopeful that I will receive similar support for this new venture that will blend all the forms of writing —those that are born out of a desire to help survivors, those that are meant for reflection, and those that are meant for enjoyment.

Your support will allow me to not only continue the work I do as an advocate, but also enjoy new creative endeavors. I hope that finding the freedom to write in all the ways that offer delight and those that continue to allow me to serve others will bring unexpected pieces filled with my bent toward storytelling that you will not want to miss.
