Chapter Eighteen: A Revelation in the Café
Crystal saw Thyme walk into the Café and said, “Oh! Thyme! You are just the person we need to talk to. Lynda was walking by the front door and thought she would try to open it . . . and it opened. Was that supposed to happen?”
Thyme smiled and said, “Tell, you what, let me call the women from the other side to come take a break and we will talk about this. Does someone want to go gather them?”
Katelynn who was standing by the snack table said, “I will go call them”
It wasn’t long until all ten women had grabbed a snack and were sitting at the tables. The word had spread that Lynda had been able to open the door and all eyes were now on Thyme.
“Yes, the door is unlocked, and you can leave at any time. It has been unlocked since this morning. Did I forget to mention that?”
Thyme wasn’t very good at looking innocent, but it was also difficult to be angry with her.
She continued, “If you decide you want to leave, just be sure I know so we don’t think something happened to you. I hope you will stay, but I never intended to keep you prisoners. After dinner, the Internet and cell service will be restored in case you want to call your families. They know you are safe and sound, and your daughters are coming to see your booths on Sunday afternoon. We have things planned all week long—I will explain that after dinner tonight. Remember dinner is served at 6:00. I’ll be checking on the last five booths when we are done here and then headed to the kitchen to prepare dinner. If anyone wants to come help, you are welcome in the kitchen. But don’t feel like it is necessary! Any questions?”
The women all looked at each other and shrugged knowing that even if questions were asked, Thyme probably wouldn’t answer them until she was good and ready.
Lynda turned to Evelynn and asked, “Are you going to leave?”
“No, I am staying,” she responded.
“Yeah, me too. I would have absolutely left last night, but not now.”
The two women looked at each other and laughed as they realized that Thyme knew exactly what she was doing.
Lynda shrugged her shoulders again and said, “One would think that she has a plan for all this craziness.”
