RockWall Cottage Chronicles #16
A newsy, sometimes amusing, usually interesting fly-on-the-RockWall view of my life as an author with updates from my Substack adventures.
The small cottage where I live and write has been affectionally named RockWall Cottage because of the rock wall that divides our side of the property from the side of the property where our friends, the owners of the cottage, live. (Learn More)
What Has Been Happening at RockWall Cottage?
Fall means concerts! We are fortunate to live near Pacific Lutheran University where my grandson is a performance/music education major. He is a talented musician—trombonist—and the Jazz Concerts are our favorite events. Yep, we are proud!
Other than that, we are watching a million leaves and walnuts fall in our backyard—The Sky is Falling— and preparing the porch for cooler days. It is time to bring the propane heater out! But first, a trip with family to the pumpkin farm.

News, Highlights from Previous Weeks, What’s Coming, and Other Stuff
I began teaching a class—Current Trends in Neuroscience & Trauma—for Tabor College’s MEd program in Neuroscience and Trauma. This is my fourth year teaching in the program as Distinguished Visiting Professor. That hardly seems possible! My life has been deeply impacted by both students and colleagues.
I am teaching both sections of this class so I plan to utilize the expertise of some of my friends in my newsletters. One of the best parts of this part of my life has been all the truly remarkable people I have met. I am better because of my friends—and I am going to raise a flag for help over the next few weeks. You will be the benefactors of their wisdom!
The results from last week’s survey were a tie between the Brave Survivor content and Trauma in the Pews 2.0. This makes sense and tells me that my reader’s primary focus is on healing—me too.
I often mention that Post Traumatic Spiritual Growth cannot and will not look much like traditional spirituality. Earlier this week, a friend sent me a link to a podcast that portrays exactly what I mean when I say this. I was mesmerized by the healing, taken back by the strength of purpose, and in awe of the places where Jelly Roll can take his story of faith and healing—places inaccessible to most others. While I would be more compassionate with his younger self’s choices—which he is at times—the entire podcast is unexpected and worth the listen.
This was a great podcast episode! Thank you for the recommendation.
