Chapter Twelve: Breakfast Conversations
Karynn walked back into the Café’ as everyone was clearing the tables.
“Any luck?” Jayne asked.
“I told her that maybe the fact that her daughter sent her to the Green Door Antique Store meant that she was hopeful that they could mend whatever had kept them apart for five years. She admitted that she thought that also, but it was too painful to think about that as a possibility. And she hates having the red booth and room because it makes her even more angry.”
“Yeah,” Jayne said. “We kind of thought that too. It seems odd and unfortunate.”
“Well,” Karynn continued, “I told her to think of it as love, like Valentine’s Day. She has reluctantly agreed to try and is getting dressed.”
“That was a good idea, Karynn. Let’s not all be standing here when she arrives. I want to take another look at my booth before I go to the basement.”
“Oh! Me too!” Belynda exclaimed. “I have so many ideas. Is my booth big enough for all of them? I love the color pink and cats. Isn’t it perfect that my booth color is the Cat’s Meow?”
Belynda’s enthusiasm got the group moving as she bounded out of the Café in a purposeful walk that likely belied her age. She didn’t have far to go to reach her pink booth.
After a quick tour of the booths, the group of women came across Evelynn eating her breakfast in the Café. Trying to not make a big deal of her joining the group, Karynn nonchalantly said, “We are headed to the basement, see you there!”
Evelynn nodded her head to acknowledge the plan and continued eating.
Reaching the basement ahead of the others, I found my yellow dots and headed to the mid-1900s corner.
